Supporting Health and Happiness Through Giving

LeAnn and Les Zetmeier’s connection with St. Mary’s Medical Center began with the births of their children. Since then, the couple welcomed two grandchildren at St. Mary’s, Les received lifesaving care there and LeAnn served on the Foundation Board.

“The more we know about the hospital’s inner workings, the more we love them,” Les says.

Throughout 50-plus years in Grand Junction, Colorado, the Zetmeirs have found St. Mary’s commitment to community health consistently impressive.

“St. Mary’s is there to help everyone — no matter what their needs are,” LeAnn says. “They do so much more than providing medical care. They give back to the community.”

Both retired from the financial services industry, the Zetmeirs believe financial contributions should start early, especially charitable ones. That’s why they’ve established an endowment through a major gift commitment combined with an estate gift commitment, providing scholarships for St. Mary’s associates wishing to further their medical educations. The couple also maximized their support through the Foundation’s matching gift program.

“Endowed funds make an incredible impact at St. Mary’s. By Les and LeAnn also utilizing our matching dollars, they are able to double that impact. In addition, matching their estate gift allows them the opportunity to see the results of this future gift during their lifetimes,” says Carmen Shipley, CFRE, Executive Director of St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation.

As the Zetmeirs say, a happy, well-educated staff in a medical center helps create an environment where patients can feel safe, be heard and get healthy.

“We wish everyone could see value in giving time and treasure,” LeAnn says. “The more you give, the more you get back.”
