Collier Cares for the Entire Family

When Catherine McLaury’s husband, George, was diagnosed with kidney failure and his health began to decline rapidly, the couple was put in touch with Collier Hospice at Lutheran Medical Center.

“Not having a family and being all alone, Collier Hospice was my only resource for the duration of George’s hospice homecare. Our hospice nurses were gentle and compassionate, providing the necessary comfort through the stages of our needs. Hospice was my resource to take care of George and having the support of the Collier Hospice Center as my anchor was very important to me both emotionally and mentally,” Catherine recalls.

George passed away shortly before the holidays in 2014, leaving Catherine even more alone, feeling hopelessly lost as if she had nowhere to turn. That’s when she learned about Lutheran Hospice’s Bereavement/Grief support programs, from where she found solace and emotional support; maybe more so than others who have family.

As she planned for the future, she knew she wanted to leave a gift in her estate plan, also known as a bequest, to Collier Hospice at Lutheran Medical Center Foundation in appreciation of the care she and George received.

“I want to ensure that people can continue to have the support they would otherwise not have,” she says.

And that’s just what Catherine’s future gift will do.

“The impact of hospice donations support our team of caregivers in providing patients quality and compassionate end-of-life care, allowing families the opportunity to spend precious moments together as well as offering grief counseling following the loss of a loved one,” says Kathie Repola, executive director for Lutheran Medical Center Foundation.
